We’re going to show you the process of tracking and tensioning a conveyor belt. We will be demonstrating on a custom made crowned rolled conveyor, but the concept will be similar on other types of conveyors as well. You can watch the video, or read below.

When you are doing a tracking adjustment on a belt your aim is to get the belt in the centre of the running track.

1. Check if the belt is in the centre

To start, take your measuring tool and measure the distance on either side of the belt to find out which direction the belt needs to shift in order to be in the centre.

2. Measure tension distance

You are going to force the tension out, and forcing out the tension on one side of the belt will send the belt in the opposite direction. Go to the side of the belt that you will be making the changes and locate the tension bracket and adjustment screw. Before you adjust anything, measure what the current tension distance is.

3. Loosen bracket

Loosen your tension bracket screws.

4. Move out adjusting screw

Use your wrench to move out the adjusting screw.

5. Run the belt

Run the belt until it has done a full cycle around the conveyor so it can adjust.

6. Check if it’s in the centre

Take another measurement. Continue making minor adjustments as necessary.

7. Finish up

Now that the belt has been properly aligned and tracked, tighten down the hardware – the side plates and the adjusting screw. The adjusting screw gets tightened against itself and the side hardware gets locked down.

Now the belt is properly tracked!
